Romney Still Clueless!
Yesterday, on a conference call with his finance committee former presidential candidate Mitt Romney “explained” why the campaign was unsuccessful.
With an attitude as dismissive as his now infamous “47% fundraiser” remarks, Romney outlined his view that all Obama voters were somehow paid off with various gifts.
“Extraordinary financial gifts from the government” included various types of legislation which various USAmeriacans found meaningful, such as young people burdened with education loans, and who can also now have health coverage through their parents’ plan until age 26. Or women who receive health coverage which includes contraceptives.
One by one, Mr. Romney checked off each of the constituent groups which he could not carry, and which included everyone but older white men, some of whom were his extremely wealthy fundraisers addressed in the phone conference.
Of particular interest was his reference to the Latino vote, which notably did not go his way.
Likewise, with Hispanic voters, free health care was a big plus. But in addition, with regards to Hispanic voters, the amnesty for children of illegals, the so-called Dream Act kids, was a huge plus for that voting group. (As quoted by William Saletan of SLATE)
So called Dream Act kids? Amnesty for children of illegals? Could Romney have been more dismissive of those tens of thousands of bilingual young people who speak English as their primary language, and who know no other country than the United States?
Could he have been more insulting to the next generation of Hispanic leaders, who are finding their voice, even if deprived of a vote!
A man so detached from the reality of the non-status that has been inherited by these loyal, productive, and would-be citizens would do well to say nothing on this subject.
Apparently still as clueless as ever, Mr. Romney has not considered that the Hispanic voters were not the direct recipients of the Deferred Action program, inasmuch as the primary beneficiaries of this executive action cannot and did not vote!
But then why should we expect a candidate who would articulate forced self-deportation and then later attempt to convince a Latino television audience of millions that he was really speaking of the right of any person to freely leave the United States if he or she so chose — why would we expect such a person to be more consistent, compassionate, or informed.
I mean, he was only running for president for Pete sake!
