Michelle Obama upset some folks, and provided the opposing political machine easy fodder when she spoke of really being proud of America, in a way she hadn’t been before.

The truth is, that there are times when reflective Americans are not so proud. I have felt this during the last year with my growing awareness of what I term “the new racism” aimed at Latino Americans in my state, North Carolina.
