Fear Mongering Knows No Limits!
The Cold War with its threat of nuclear attack. 9/11 and Al Queda.
Truly fearful chapters in US History. Yet former Representative Tom Tancredo believes that the greatest threat to our country is at home in the person of … I’ll let you read it for yourself.
“But I firmly believe this — it’s not just, you know, sort of a dramatic statement that a person would make to get press or something, or ink. I believe this with all my heart. The greatest threat to the United States today, the greatest threat to our liberty, the greatest threat to the Constitution of the United States, the greatest threat to our way of life, everything we believe in, the greatest threat to the country that was put together by the Founding Fathers is the guy that is in the White House today.”
Tancredo is known for over-the-top rhetoric. He prides himself in his flavor of patriotism, one that sees no room for multiple cultures in one country, forgetting that we have always been a nation of Christians, Jews, Catholics, Protestants, Italians, Irish, Chinese, Japanese, and of course, Latinos and Muslims and other cultures, religious or ethnic.
Such fear mongering does not stop with his attack on our biracial president, who Tancredo believes represents a “cult of multiculturalism”. He works hard at instilling fear of Muslims, and likes to speak of bombing mosques and holy places as a possible response to Islamic extremists.
More recently, he has renewed his campaign to strip the citizenship from all native born children who have at least one undocumented parent. The proper move, as he sees it, is to either repeal the 14th amendment to the Constitution, or to so redefine it that it does not apply to someone who was born here, granted citizenship and always believed that they were under the jurisdiction of the United States. Such an action, according to Tancredo, should be applied retroactively, literally stripping citizenship from those who already have it!
It doesn’t matter that a repeal would take many years, or that the Federal Courts would take a dim view of his reinterpretation of the 14th amendment. It serves his purpose, providing him an audience for his anti-first-generation-citizen-of-the-wrong-culture” rhetoric.
And then there is his announced campaign for Governor of Colorado as a Tea Party conservative running on the American Constitution Party ticket.
Ironic, in a dark humor sort of way — the idea that it’s Barak Obama who is the greatest threat to the US constitution.
