\t\t\t\t\"\"<\/a>It was considered to be in poor taste, so the Obama campaign quickly tried to walk it back.\u00a0 But he had already said it in what he naively thought was a private setting, only to be recorded for later replay.<\/p>\n

And replay they did:<\/p>\n

\u201cYou go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing\u2019s replaced them. And it\u2019s not surprising, then, they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren\u2019t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Quick to propagate his remarks, Hillery Clinton, his Democratic Primary opponent at the time, made sure America heard his words, believing that this would be such an embarrassment to the Democrats that they would shift their support<\/a> to her campaign.<\/p>\n

The conventional wisdom was that such a statement would make Obama unelectable<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Yet what of the statement?\u00a0 Certainly it did not destroy the Obama campaign, but two years later the Republicans — who were expected to use this against Obama — have seemingly embraced it as their campaign platform<\/em>.<\/p>\n

On guns, we have the following from Sharon Angle. In an interview with Nevada talk show host Bill Manders <\/a> we have this:<\/p>\n

Angle:<\/strong> I feel that the Second Amendment is the right to keep and bear arms for our citizenry. This not for someone who’s in the military. This not for law enforcement. This is for us. And in fact when you read that Constitution and the founding fathers, they intended this to stop tyranny. This is for us when our government becomes tyrannical…<\/em><\/p>\n

Manders:<\/strong> If we needed it at any time in history, it might be right now.<\/em><\/p>\n

Angle:<\/strong> Well it’s to defend ourselves. And you know, I’m hoping that we’re not getting to Second Amendment remedies. I hope the vote will be the cure for the Harry Reid problems.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

So, given Angle’s frequently referenced Christian faith, what we have here is Christian Survivalism<\/a><\/em> at its finest.<\/p>\n

Ms. Angle is further quoted in The Reno Gazette Journal<\/a>:<\/p>\n

“What is a little bit disconcerting and concerning is the inability for sporting goods stores to keep ammunition in stock,” she said. “That tells me the nation is arming. What are they arming for if it isn’t that they are so distrustful of their government? They’re afraid they’ll have to fight for their liberty in more Second Amendment kinds of ways?<\/p>\n

“That’s why I look at this as almost an imperative. If we don’t win at the ballot box, what will be the next step?”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

When then candidate Obama described this “guns and religion” mentality several years ago it was considered insulting.<\/p>\n

So am I now to understand that the US Civil War was actually the South invoking their Second Amendment Rights?<\/p>\n
