Celebrity Apprentice<\/em> creator Mark Burnett\u2019s introduction provided President Donald Trump with a convenient segue in which to once again emphasize his past successes in the TV reality show which extended the Trump brand. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Mark Burnett told of the original deal made between Trump and himself against the advice of Trump\u2019s agent.<\/p>\n

President Trump, while accepting Burnett\u2019s gracious words of appreciation for the new president, found it necessary to correct Burnett\u2019s recollection with two \u201coff the cuff\u201d variations of the back-story, as well as to evaluate the current post-Trump iteration of the reality show.<\/p>\n

…Mark Burnet \u2013 thank you \u2013 for the wonderful introduction. So true. So true. I said to the agent, ‘I’m sorry.’ The only thing wrong — I actually got on the phone and fired him myself because he said ‘You don’t want to do it. It’ll never work. It’ll never, ever work. You don’t want to do it.’\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

“But I really fired him after it became the No. 1 show. It became so successful, and he wanted a commission, and he didn’t want to do the show. That’s what I really said. But we had tremendous success on ‘The Apprentice.’ <\/em><\/p>\n

When I ran for president, I had to leave the show. That’s when I knew for sure I was doing it. They hired a big, big movie star, Arnold Schwarzenegger, to take my place. And we know how that turned out. The ratings went right down the tubes. It’s been a total disaster, and Mark will never, ever bet against Trump again. And I want to just pray for Arnold if we can for those ratings.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The “Mark will never, ever bet against Trump again” remark is interesting, in light of\u00a0his\u00a0having\u00a0disowned Trump after the Access Hollywood debacle, (\u201cI am not now and have never been a supporter of Donald Trump\u2019s\u00a0candidacy. \u00a0I am NOT \u2018Pro-Trump\u2019,\u201d)\u00a0<\/p>\n

The 46.1% American voters who voted for Trump seem more willing to forgive the president\u2019s self-obsession. For the 53.9% who voted otherwise, it may prove more difficult.<\/p>\n

As a Christian of the latter category, I personally found his me-first pronouncements unnecessary and inconsistent with the speech which\u00a0was written for him.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
