Polls are as fickle as the electorate, but an interesting trend among voters is developing.
The recent NBC/Wall Street Journal numbers are an obvious reflection on former governor Romney’s Republican primary campaign.
In addition to the trend away from Romney by women voters, it is clear that his campaign is is trouble with the Latino voters. Clearly there is a reason why Time Magazine (March 5, 2012) devoted a cover article to the growing power of the Hispanic electorate.
The hardline “anti-amnesty-immigration” political action commitee ALIPAC is quite concerned about Romney, despite his primary campaign rhethoric against the DREAM Act and advocation of a system of “self-deportation.” (Emphasized words lifted with quote)
The former Massachusetts governor warned during a private fundraiser this past weekend that his standing in polls with Hispanics “spells doom for us,” and that to alleviate the problem the GOP needed to offer its own policies to woo Hispanics. His suggestions included a “Republican DREAM Act,” referring to a GOP version of the Democratic plan that would give some illegal immigrants who came here as children a path to citizenship.
So suddenly Mr. Romney has discovered the voting power of a community that he has been dismissing for months.
